How does network bandwidth affect camera selection? You should always consider band width requirements especially if you are connecting the camera over existing network infrastructure or want to solely view over the internet.
Home Automation
What is a “smart home”?Generally speaking, if your home has devices that connect to each other and to a network, it’s a smart home. The complexity of smart systems may differ somewhat from home to home, but the basic foundations are the same.
What is a smart thermostat?A smart thermostat is responsible for controlling your home’s temperature. As with many smart devices, smart thermostats connect to your home network, giving you remote access and control over all the device’s functions.
What are the benefits of home automation? The benefits of home automation typically fall into a few categories, including savings, safety, convenience, and control. Additionally, some consumers purchase home automation for comfort and peace of mind.
What are the different operating standards for home automation technology? The primary operating standards for home automation technology are these four: Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, Zigbee, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). However, they aren’t the only ones you’ll come across as you create your smart home. Other standards, or protocols, include X10, Insteon, Thread, and Universal Powerline Bus (UPB).
What are the elements of a home automation system? At the most basic level, home automation systems are made up of three elements: a smart device, a hub, and a connected application.
While some smart systems work with just two of those above elements—a single device that works directly with an app or a hands-free hub that controls smart gadgets—most systems work through all three.
Are smart homes affordable?Smart homes are affordable—as long as you set a budget before venturing into the world of home automation. As a general rule, the home automation cost for a simpler setup will be substantially less than a complex setup.
Not all smart homes are the same. Some include automation for nearly every electronic device, while others focus on addressing the basics. Neither way is necessarily better.
How can I save energy with home automation?Home automation can help you save energy by ensuring your home uses resources like water and electricity more effectively, reducing waste throughout the home.
You may know that home automation can help increase your home’s convenience and security. But did you know it can also save you money? With home automation, you can make a small difference for the environment—and you see smaller utility bills as a result.
Do I have to make my whole house smart? No, you don’t have to make your whole house smart. You should weigh your options and decide whether to invest in standalone smart gadgets or a full-scale home automation network. Some people prefer the former, either because they’re new to smart home technology or desire connectivity for only one or two home functions.
How long does it take to install smart home technology? The time it takes to install smart home technology depends entirely on what you’re installing and how many devices you’re working with. Generally, though, it shouldn’t take more than a few hours to install a couple new gadgets, except in certain complicated situations.
Alarm & Security System
How Much Does a Security System Cost?Home security providers have worked to help make home security more affordable.
Beyond this, research also shows compelling benefits to home security like risk mitigation and peace of mind, which can outweigh the costs for many people.
To help you decide if home security is right for you, we`ve performed a cost-benefit analysis to look at home security from all the angles.
Do I Really Need a Security System?According to Alarm System Report, over 2 million home burglaries are reported in the United States each year and, on average, a burglary of a home in the U.S. occurs every 13 seconds-or about four burglaries a minute, 240 an hour, and nearly 6,000 a day.
Both homeowners and renters need to consider these statistics when it comes to protecting their families, roommates, and possessions.
How Can I Avoid Setting False Alarms?Despite advanced technology, false alarms do happen occasionally. This can be a result of faulty equipment, dead batteries, improper installation, user error, or any number of other issues. There can be fines of up to $200 associated with repeated false alarms, but proper system use and maintenance can help you avoid those hefty expenses.
Do Home Security Systems Work With VoIP?It depends on the security system and the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) provider. The two most important considerations are the way that your VoIP security system communicates with the monitoring center, and how the VoIP service gets power.
Many security systems depend on standard telephone lines to connect to the monitoring center. Alarm system signals travel as a "sound" along copper wire, just like the buzzing noise of a fax machine or dial-up modem.
Are Wireless Home Security Systems Reliable? There are risks to any technology, and no home security system can absolutely guarantee against break-ins or glitches. For that reason, some people have concerns about both wired and wireless systems. With a wired home security setup, there may be a fear that a burglar could cut the wires and disable the system. But with a wireless system, there are a few key concerns.
What Are the Best Features to Include in a Security System? The best security system features are the ones that best protect your home and loved ones. That being said, rapid advances in home security technology have enabled the top security system providers to offer more cutting-edge products and services than ever before.
Home Theater and Audio/ Video
What is included in a typical home theater system?1. Speakers: Front stage speakers , surround speakers, effect speakers and subwoofer Ranging from 5.1 surround sound to 11.2 surround sound.
2. An AV receiver.
3. A source player like DVD player or Blu-ray player.
4. Projectors or flat panel televisions like Plasma or LCD.
What is surround sound?A 360 degree sound experience representing screen related activities in front speakers (front left, center, front right) and OFF- screen activities in surround speakers. The 360 degree sound experience should be in strict co-relation to the video events On-screen and Off- screen.
How big a room do I need to get a real Home Theater experience?A minimum size of 170 sq ft is required for a decent home theatre. The width:length ratio is a very important aspect and a ratio of 1:4 is highly recommended. On the higher sound, large rooms of even 700-800 sft can give a very spacious sound movement feel, provided the acoustics are optimum.
What kind of furniture do I use for my Media room?High Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) during movie playback can cause loose surface to rattle. All furniture should be free of loosely held components to prevent clutter and rattle. Glass should not be used liberally in theater environments.
Does the acoustics of the room have an effect on the audio quality?Yes, the acoustics of the room contributes to more than 40% of the overall sound experience.
What is the power consumption of a home theatre system?Depends on the amplifiers and projectors used in the room. Class A Amplifiers are very hungry on power. Class AB Amplifiers are leaner on power in comparison. Class D-Amplifiers are the most efficient on power.
A typical class AB AVR driven home theater of around 250 sqft, subwoofer ,a projector, and sources will require anywhere between 2.5 to 3 KVA. Larger the room, higher will be the power requirements of amplifier.
What is the warranty period for the products? The Warranty Period for the services vary from product to product and varies from one year to twenty years as decide by the manufacturer.
What are the differences between typical stereo speakers and home theater speakers?Stereo as a format requires 2 full frequency band speakers and home theater as a format requires at least 5 speakers (L,R,C,SR,SL)and a subwoofer. Stereo as format demands more fidelity out of the speakers as the listener is bound to have a higher reference for music. Home theater on the other hand involves many instances of noise (bomb explosion, car chases, gunshots, action sequences etc.) where there can be multiple references and hence unclear yard sticks for evaluation .
What are the things to be considered to setup a home theatre system?Room size, room proportions, acoustic surfaces(absorption and reflection), speaker positions, distances from walls, seating positions, screen size, viewing angles.
Should one consult an acoustic specialist to setup a home theatre?Acoustics is the single largest contributor to sound quality in the room and hence consulting an acoustic specialist is very important.
Should one seek the services of an interior designer to design a home theatre setup? An Interior designer is critical in the converting the acoustic ideas of an acoustic consultant into pleasing interiors.
Does the material/type of flooring impact the acoustics?Any of the six surfaces of the room will impact the home theater acoustics.
How does one derive maximum value/listening experience? The word “value for money” is the most abused term in the audio video industry. The Term “Value” is a variable from customer to customer and can be ascertained only on interacting with the customer.
